The parade of originally toned, “grey-dirt” coins continues. The patina is of ancient origin. Somehow this coin escaped the dipping mania of my numismatically formative years, 1955-1965. We may be sure that the coin never entered circulation. “Cabinet friction” is an apt descriptor of the dark areas on Liberty’s cheek and cap. Cakey luster lies under the toning. Est. $800 to $1,000.
