1830 - Sm. 0 O.104 R.3 PCGS AU 58
It is a challenge to find wear on this sensational “AU 58” from the Davignon Collection. The surfaces are ablaze with luster. I see a couple of stray hairlines on the cheek. They do not look like slide marks, just miniscule signs of handling. The obverse toning reminds us of a painter’s palette – splashes of vibrant colors across a pristine surface. The more evenly toned reverse is equally captivating. From Mail Bid Sale #16, Jan.1996, lot 172; then in an NGC MS 62 holder. This is one of those rare occasions when I side with NGC in the grading wars. Est. $1,150 to $1,500.
