1828 - Curl 2, No Knob O.105 R.5 PCGS AU 55 CAC
Ex Elton Dosier, Charles De Olden and Keith Davignon. Dosier, bust halfdom’s most conservative grader, carried the coin as “AU 55” in his BHNC census. Full luster in the fields and across most devices; light wear on the portrait; the sharply struck reverse appears to be uncirculated. The coin is solidly within the Condition Census. Untoned except for a few areas near the rims. Do not be numbed by the assortment of high grade rarities in the sale. Offer thanks to the consignors and jump at the chance to corral one or more of these very special coins. Davignon was the winning bidder in my August 2006 “Fabulous 44” sale of Charles De Olden’s most important coins. This was lot 34, then in an NGC AU 58 capsule. It brought $4,265 nine years ago. Est. $3,000 to $5,000.
