1824/4 -  O.110 R.2 PCGS AU 58 CAC

Pastel gold and orange with flashes of iridescent turquoise through the stars and legend, the usual outcome when a coin has been stored in paper. This lustrous example is from the collection of Russ Logan. Russ kept his coins in 2x2 envelopes. He detested slabs. When he acquired an encapsulated coin he grabbed his nippers and freed it from captivity. No exceptions. In 2001 I saw him release an R.7+ 1832 O.123 from its PCGS Proof 63 capsule. Russ acquired this coin at the Jan. 1992 sale of James Brilliant’s collection, lot 241 where it was offered raw as “AU 58/MS 60.” Jim kept his collection in a Boston bank vault, where the coins were stored in 2x2 envelopes. The Brilliant and Logan auction tags accompany the lot, along with Logan’s personal insert. Est. $1,700 to $2,300.
