1819/8 - Large 9 O.106 R.4 PCGS MS 62 CAC
Ex Steve Nomura whose collection was featured in Mail Bid Sale 37, August 2013. Steve acquired this old friend in February 1992 when it appeared as lot 39A in Mail Bid 6. The coin was raw. Out of fright I graded it AU 58. Whatever sign of friction my younger eyes detected can no longer be seen. This is a solid mint state coin. Five die pairs in 1819 feature an overdate (one with a small 9). The O. 106 is the scarcest of the group, though the O.103/103a also carries an R.4 rating. This piece is long on eye appeal, with dazzling luster and a blush of golden toning. The MB 6 auction tag accompanies the lot, along with the kraft envelope in which Steve stored the coin until this year. Est. $3,500 to $4,500.
