Overton describes “a rough die lump near the upper edge of left wing … visible to some degree on all specimens seen.” This early die state, however, lacks that feature. Students of the series suggest that a dozen or so pieces may survive without the familiar lump. This may be the best of the lot. It is almost certainly the prettiest! Sea green and golden iridescence float across the smooth, hard surfaces. Outlines of the design elements, stars and letters included, are unusually distinct. Whether you collect pretty coins or unusual die states here is a prize for your collection. This piece was uncovered by Brad Karoleff and sold to the consignor in October 2008. Est. $1,300 and up.
