1809 - O.111 R.4? PCGS AU 55
This die pair generally comes with weak or missing dentils. Early die states, with full obverse and reverse dentils, are scarce, thus the R.4 designation. Here is an example of the so-called prime die state.. The coin displays even, light grey toning. The smooth surfaces are mildly reflective, though not prooflike. A bit nicer than Davignon’s PCGS AU 50 example, MB 40, Jan. 2015, lot 30 @ $1,577. Est. $1,200 to $1,700.
