A noted rarity. Die variety collectors – be ready. The opportunity to acquire a reasonably priced 1823 O.109 is itself a rarity. As with many early U.S. coins, this circulated half-dollar was cleaned up and put in a Wayte Raymond holder by an unknown collector, probably in the 1930s or 1940s. Album toning restored its appearance. Aside from less than obvious hairlines, the surfaces are free of distractions. Last offered, unheralded and largely ignored, in the Internet session of Heritage’s Founding Father’s Sale of Dec. 2021.
